Water Cherenkov Simulation and Reconstruction

Simulation of Water Cherenkov Events in the CHIPS Detector

The UCL CHIPS group is involved in both the simulation of water Cherenkov beam events in the CHIPS detector. Importantly, the size and number of PMTs can make huge differences in the reconstruction of events, and this is actively investigated in those simulations.

Fitting of Cherenkov Rings from Simulated Events

The reconstruction work focuses on reconstructing the Cherenkov light rings produced by different types of events. For example, the main background to electron neutrino appearance events are 2 ring neutral pion events. The two pictures below show first attempts at reconstructing such a background event using a simulated CHIPS detector.
