Minutes for UCL Proton Beam Therapy Group Meetings, 25th February

Present

Joe Bateman, Sonia Escribano, Febian, Simon Jolly, Raffaella Radogna (via Teams)

Simon Jolly

  • New zmod boards arrived in UCL - will give to Matt to play around with
  • DDC boards are delayed
  • Will be pursuing circuit fabrication with Imperial due to being cheaper
  • Likely not until may until scintillators arrive from Wales
  • Neo machine arriving 17/3
  • All three should start learning how to use CNC machine
  • Need to get familiar with fusion
  • 12 -16 UCLH
  • W/b 19th for Trento possibly

Raffaella Radogna

  • Sent list of measurements to FRIDA for Trento beam time
  • Uploaded guide and details and beam time request template to Teams
  • Max energy is 230 MeV
  • IBA machine
  • Only 230 MeV for FLASH
  • Could use degraders
  • 70-230 MeV for CONV
  • Proposal deadline is march 1st so would like to get proposal to be completed within next couple days
  • Finalising frame for second prototype and designing piece to inject light into individual fibres to calibrate
  • Deciding on connector on other end of laser for converter
  • Access period for Trento will be from July for beam time request due in March - may be different for FRIDA

Sonia Escribano

  • Dual board FTDI_GUI to create two separate raw files
  • Calibration of dual files
    • Run code twice (one for each side) rather than individual code for each side
    • Calibrations 1-4 on one side and calibrations 8-5
    • Depending on the side will depend on which calibration
    • Simon and Sonia to discuss further after the meeting separately
  • Looking at box fields from UCLH May beam test
    • Notes need to be more concise for future beam test notes
    • Run 53 and 54 seem to have most reliable data
    • Only 6.5 beams in run53 and 6 beams in run 54
    • Looking at measurement time for each beamlet
      • Maybe not starting acquisition early enough?
  • Raspberry pi v3.4 uploaded to GitHub
  • Installed pi5 into cases and spare one has fan directly connected to it
  • However doesn’t turn on when press button in argon one case- change pin settings (mode always on)
    • Get message saying power supply is limited to 5A power to peripherals restricted (within case)
    • Old rasp pi doesn’t get error
  • RTC clock battery in main pi has been damaged - time measured correctly but starting point not correct - i.e. 2 pins on main raspberry pi board not working

Joe Bateman

  • Full Analysis of 5 Gy SOBP for Paper and PPRIG slides
    • Full QuADProBe params:
      • 1) Intensity: CMOS, Size/Pos.: CMOS, Energy: QuARC
      • 2) Intensity: QuARC, Size/Pos.: CMOS, Energy: QuARC (to do)
    • Part QuADProBe, part DICOM
      • 3) Intensity: DICOM, Size/Pos.: CMOS, Energy: QuARC
      • 4) Intensity: DICOM, Size/Pos.: DICOM/CMOS, Energy: QuARC/DICOM
    • Full DICOM params
      • 5) Intensity: DICOM, Size/Pos.: DICOM, Energy: DICOM
  • Looking at individual Bragg peaks for largest deviations between shifted QuARC measurement and DICOM
    • Largest negative deviation at QuARC: 122.7 MeV DICOM: 124.1 MeV
    • Largest positive deviation at QuARC: 76.3 MeV DICOM: 74.2 MeV
    • Closest agrement at QuARC: 118.57 MeV DICOM: 118.50 MeV
  • Working on 3D Gamma pass analysis between distributions from DICOM and each of the reconstructions.
  • Tony has uploaded super frames for 5x5 box field (reason there are less images is due to the fact there are less energy layers than SOBP nd transverse tanning happens quicker than energy layer switching so multiple spots per layer.
  • Tony currently processing two of the 3x3 box fields as well.
  • Can assist Sonia with photodiode testing in preparation for beam test, as well as get better understanding of setup to be able to help with QuARC beam tests.
  • Email Kirsty from Hamamatsu to chase up on progress of discussion about fibre readout.

Febian

  • Looking at python code for root fitting for eventual FPGA implementation - but computationally intensive
  • Should look at more resourceful methods using FPGA fitting methods
  • Continues presentation on PBT and QuARC - should focus attention on understanding the communication between the DDC, zmod and FPGA before looking int any form of Python script.
