Minutes for UCL Proton Beam Therapy Group Meetings, 13th November

Present

Joe Bateman, Sonia Escribano, Febian, Simon Jolly, Raffaella Radogna (via zoom)

Raffaella Radogna

  • Harry sent material, will be discussing production of new prototype in Bari - rough estimate for finalising QuARC enclosure - so to provide Harry with updated frame for fibres
    • Sonia + Simon to chase Harry to get information on when updated enclosure design

Simon Jolly

  • Not likely beam tests before end of year since still waiting on Oxford to get electronics made
  • Raffy and Joe to eventually investigate alternative photodiode options that are able to interface current QuARC detector readout interface
  • For each array - two clocks inputs, 5v power supply, 4 output channels from NI (2 video with grounding (analogue signal with grounding), 2 digital output control signal from board)
  • Existing device for analogue input and usb 104 for output
  • Digital output control signals - Logic level out of 4v max clock when pixel has been readout - up 128 times.
  • Unsure whether we should submit PTCOG abstract for talk since it could be tight to get a decent amount of results before June.

Sonia Escribano

  • After analysing run084 from UCLH run - it appears Bragg peak is shifting backwards from gui replay - further analysis shows a shift in the Bragg peak backwards
  • Likely to be from FPGA reading since Bragg peak shape is exactly the same and is slowly shifting backwards by a set number of photodiodes.
  • First prioritise chasing up with Harry abut scintillator sheet machining, and about the updated QuARC enclosure, then fixing any further GUI issues and then finally can look into what is causing the shift in Bragg Peak position.

Joe Bateman

  • Scripting for sourcing HEP PBT G4 environment complete and tutorials updated.
  • Working on modifying ProtonGB tutorial script to score 3D dose distribution of run033 from UCLH beam test.
  • Discussed with Peter Barker from AMOPP about using Geant4 for modelling the quantum sensor dark matter experiment using opto-mechanically levitating nanoparticles - wants model effect of 4 MeV alpha-particles interacting with silica nanoparticles.
  • Get Saad's QuARC Geant4 simulation up and running over CVMFS - then can be used to check issue Bragg Peak siding to check it is. not from the beam itself and is definitely to do with the readout electronics?
  • Take charge of PPRIG 2025 abstract due 31/12.

Febian

  • Gave first part of presentation on FPGAs
