Proton Calorimetry/Meetings/2024/10/09
Minutes for UCL Proton Beam Therapy Group Meetings, 18th September
Present
Joe Bateman, Sonia Escribano, Simon Jolly, Raffaella Radogna (via zoom) , , Andreas Korn (via zoom)
Raffaella Radogna
- Arrives on Sun 27th - will be around on UCL from Monday with fibre setup
- New equipment for second setup will be arriving in Bari soon
- Will need 20-25cm prior to QuARC
- Hole on optical board for cables to pass through
- Use trolly with optical board
Sonia Escribano
- Mismatch between root and macOS when looking at fitting code
- In code, issue with position - definition of centre of sheets - works well for one module - but when using two modules becomes issue - assumes separation is 1.5 mm instead of 3 mm
- Accounting for this reduces the 1.5 mm offset
- Constant observed offset is removed if start counting at 3mm rather than 0 mm
- Will check with other sets of data
- Currently debugging the code
- Sheet positions pulled from file with sheet thicknesses on it - may need to update and simplify for future production - maybe put into .json file?
- Future experiment - updated QuARC (with new scintillators and improved electronics) UCLH before Xmas to do list:
- No news from Martin
- Harry visiting Datron but no news yet - ask Harry
- Need to test electronics
- Lab testing with DAQ laptops and GUI should be done
- Even if scintillators aren't ready should do with photodiodes and code
- Sonia to take charge of this
- In terms of DAQ and GUI
- Gui needs testing with new fpga and electronics - need whole. Module to test
- Live visualisation: Live data and then at end of live data see the fit -- Live data readout - one fit to all data - then trigger post processing -- Live data readout - one fit to all data - then trigger post processing
- Postprocessing - currently two codes calibration & fit oof avg measurement
Simon Jolly
- For fitting - have single calibration file per module as opposed to two (one per shoot through for each direction) ?
- How to include errors in the fitting - I.e. put large errors on sheets with less accurate value to influence fit less
- Goal of new QuARC test to tests new electronics Daisy chain with usb-c and double sided photodiodes
- 4 modules with 8 boards to do immediate measurements i.e. daisy-chaining 8 modules
- But only need online readout of 4
- To test scanning beam position and how this can reconstruct the Bragg peak and compare to simulated beam
- New good sheets from harry, in newly designed scintillator sheet holders mounted into a newly cut peli-case
- Testing new ddc boards and usb 104 chain
- As well as checking light output with existing fpga code on new ddc boards to ensure fpga code on new boards
- Sending for new ddc and new mod boards to be produced
- Maybe still have beam test with new scintillator and old ddc boards etc
- Can maybe acquire with fibres ? Since fibre DAQ is independent currently ?
