Proton Calorimetry/Meetings/2018/11/07
Minutes for UCL Proton Calorimetry Meeting, 24th October 2018 (D17, Physics & Astronomy, UCL)
Present
Simon Jolly, Raffaella Radogna, Laurent Kelleter, Jeremy Ocampo, Saad Shaikh, Fernando Franco Felix
JO:
- Attending HEP lectures: HEP Monday and Tuesday, CDT Thursday.
- Going through Geant4 simulations: cannot view graphics on Windows laptop...
- Laptop has been ordered by SJ and Tony Hoare.
- Met with Jamie McClelland and Adam Gibson on 18th October: have been provided with reading list.
- Will take Medical Physics/CDT courses next term: Numerical Optimisation and Inverse Problems.
- To Do:
- Try analysing Geant4 simulation results in Python.
- Background reading!
SS:
- Finished and submitted Literature Review.
- Contacted LeCroy again: still waiting for information.
- Setting up equipment for Birmingham.
- To Do:
- Cracking back on with project.
- Take data in Birmingham!
MH:
- Geant4 simulation now multithreaded: using 4 cores doubles the speed of the simulation.
- Multithreaded simulations result in multiple data files:
- Geant4 cannot merge them itself.
- Possible to merge manually.
- RR suggests that merging should work automatically: will investigate.
- To Do:
- Build application for Legion cluster: need to speak to Research Computing.
- Test application on HEP and Legion clusters.
FFF:
- Background reading on proton therapy: LK recommended Paganetti: Proton Therapy Physics.
- Met with LK to discuss detector development.
- Two potential ideas for Masters project:
- Complete range calorimeter simulations.
- Front end electronics design and readout.
- Will contact Ruben Saakyan to discuss options and find out more about light detection options.
RR:
- Met with Marina Fuentes Sainz to discuss patent issues:
- Not enough knowledge on patent application process.
- Meeting arranged with Vassilios Albanis on Monday 29th October.
- To Do:
- Meet Vassilios.
LK:
- Working on build-up simulation paper: need to check LET definition.
- Debugging Geant4 simulations with CentOS 7 environment.
- Organisation of HIT trip.
