Proton Calorimetry/Meetings/2024/07/17
Minutes for UCL Proton Beam Therapy Group Meetings, 17th July
Present
Joe Bateman, Simon Jolly, Sonia Escribano, Andreas Korn (on Zoom)
Andreas Korn
- Andreas knows Daniel from ATLAS also involved with development of scintillating materials in German polytechnic - wants to help with designing better scintillating sheets - water equivalent density and 3mm.
- Improved technique for optically decoupling insulator - dipping/coating technique as opposed to mylar wrapping - potentially a thinner film coating than the 6um mylar sheets.
- If Daniel can provide 105 by 105 mm sheets or 100 by 100 mm with 3 mm tickets we can test soonish if we can get UCLH beam time.
Sonia Escribano
- Analysis from most recent UCLH beam test
- Correlating QuARC energies to DICOM energies give constant 4-5 mm offset.
- Additional ~ 2.5 mm when taking into account WET of NPL transmission calorimeter and UoB CMOS detector.
- Looking to implement consistent fitting parameters i.e start fitting 5 sheets prior and ending 3 sheets after rather manually changing for each run.
- Some photodiodes behave weirdly for different runs but not consistently for every run
- Re-investigate calibration issue and strange results when applying to Christie measurements despite same sheets used.
Simon Jolly
- Some of the QuARC USB-Cs are flaky
- Order of connecting electronics in daisy chain matters
- No set of pristine scintillators as of yet
- Refined electronics and pristine new set of scintillator sheets will be needed before next beam test
Joe Bateman
- Try and run basic Geant4 examples via CVMFS
- Email Ben Morgan from Warwick uniform advice on Geant4 via CVMFS etc
