Minutes for UCL Proton Calorimetry Meetings, 15th September
Present
Simon Jolly, Saad Shaikh, Jeremy Ocampo
Saad Shaikh
- Met with Raffy to discuss poster for IEEE NSS MIC
- Raffy to draft landscape version of poster and slides for video presentation.
- Will meet again to discuss recording of video.
- Raffy mentioned that we have a UV LED already, will look for it.
- Will take care not to dismantle detector after next UCLH beam in order to take calibration measurements with UV LED.
- Simon has heard back from Andy: UCLH beam test possible within next 1-2 months. Exact date TBC. Measurements to be made:
- Background & calibration
- Pencil beams, 70-110 MeV, 3 currents (high, low, very low)
- ±5mm in x-y plane for given z
- Range steps, no x-y scanning (demo live fit)
- Box field treatment plan
- Steer beam towards photodiodes(?)
- Beam test at Clatterbridge likely to not happen until new year.
- Fern has provided headless pi
- Marked up white scintillator sheets with numbers and thicknesses.
- Discussion about stack holder design:
- Connor has started mocking up designs, will present at next meeting
- Current method of calibration with proton shoot-through is not sufficient for large numbers of scintillator sheets – requires 32 sheet modules where photodiodes do not move between calibration and insertion to full detector.
- Using radioactive source or UV LED injection can be an alternative method for calibration. Latter is easier, will inquire with Derek about this. Using protons for calibration also presents practical issues with obtaining beam-time.
- Fern will provide headless Pi later this week for testing.
- Work on more efficient GUI is underway.
- Will need to investigate detector control with GUI after handover.
- Heard back from Raffy, will continue work on IEEE NSS MIC presentation.
- No word from Spyros/UCLH, but Clatterbridge beam test is possible.
