Minutes for UCL Proton Calorimetry Meeting, 14th November 2018 (D17, Physics & Astronomy, UCL)
Present
Simon Jolly, Raffaella Radogna, Laurent Kelleter, Jeremy Ocampo, Saad Shaikh, Fernando Franco Felix, Ohie Mayenin, James Golbourn
Everybody introduced themselves to James; James introduced himself to everyone.
JG
- Reading through relevant chapters of Proton Therapy Physics by Paganetti.
- Lots of background reading on QA devices and processes: LK promises to forward on paper on PSI QA systems.
- To Do:
- Read through QA paper from LK.
- 4 days a week of MSc courses: Advanced QM, Molecular BioPhys, Physics of Stars; Climate and Energy, Advanced Stats, Molecular Physics. Also studying particle physics.
JO:
- Almost finished Geant4 tutorials:
- Geant4 installed on laptop.
- Installed MacPorts and ROOT on Mac.
- Had questions about how Geant4 calculates dose deposition.
- Still going through reading list provided by Jamie McClelland and Adam Gibson.
- To Do:
- Build Geant4 simulations of Cherenkov emission in water and scintillation light output from scintillator block.
- Contact Adam Gibson for existing Geant4 Cherenkov simulations.
- Find optimal Satechi USB-C adapter.
OM:
- Finished working through first Geant4 tutorial on photon beam: will look at proton simulations.
- Plan of action is to work from Geant4 to BDSIM, then add in CAD modelling, before improving CAD model.
- To Do:
- Proton Geant4 tutorials.
- Take a look at BDSIM: will contact SJ when ready to move on to BDSIM tutorials.
SS:
- Started reconstructing spectra from LeCroy waveform data from Birmingham experimental runs:
- Parameters need tweaking in Dan Walker's reconstruction code to match Caen spectra.
- Needed to widen window in which pulse arrives: SJ suggests contacting Dan to implement code to find pulse rising edge.
- Still trying to quantify LeCroy scope dead time: will contact SJ when next tests need to be made to check setup.
- To Do:
- Talk to Dan Walker about pulse rising edge finding.
- Check total number of protons in each peak for eyepatch data.
- Send spectra to Tony Price.
- Plan to have all Birmingham data analysed by Christmas: both spectra and tracker.
MH:
- Still checking through Geant4 simulations:
- Phantom rotating in visualiser but not in actual simulation...
- Rotation now fixed: managed to reconstruct and view images of phantom.
- Need to convert ITK format to something with 2D slices to analyse data:
- SJ suggests contacting Jamie McClelland for DICOM conversion and viewing tools.
- Probably don't need to run on Legion: better reconstruction using fan beam with 10 million protons.
- To Do:
- Assign ID to each proton to speed up pre and post matching.
- Contact Simon Rit and Niels Krah to convert ITK images to DICOM.
- Contact Jamie McClelland for DICOM image conversion and reconstruction tools.
- Transfer report due 30th November.
FFF:
- Met Daniel Spring from Hamamatsu to look into optimal photodiodes:
- New products may be available that fit our needs.
- Custom photodiode also possible: removing resin that covers photodiode reduces transverse size but makes it much more sensitive.
