Minutes for UCL Proton Calorimetry Meetings, 27th July

Present

Saad Shaikh, Simon Jolly, Raffaella Radogna, Unik Limbu

Saad Shaikh

  • Attended PTCOG conference in Miami and was then on holiday until 13th July.
    • No meeting last 2 weeks due to Simon being in Spain.
  • Met with Andy Poynter at UCLH to discuss career options during/post post-doc:
    • Formal 50/50 position during postdoc unlikely due to excessive commitments, but shorter term placements at UCLH are possible.
    • Longer term positions are also possible, but would need to find money to justify pausing postdoc funding.
    • Route 2 by the Association of Clinical Scientists is a useful way to gain clinical certification while working as an e.g. clinical technologist. This is something that can be done after postdoc.
  • Will meet with Colin Baker at UCLH on Tuesday to discuss similar career prospects and making a Giraffe WET measurement of Rev. B and Rev. C stacks during monthly QA measurements.
  • NUVIA could potentially send another set of 3 mm sheets – this time hopefully actually 3 mm and not 3.4 mm.
  • Will meet with Charles-Antoine Collins-Fekete and rest of medical imaging group on Friday post discussion with Daniel Robertson to present the QuARC and discuss possible collaboration.
  • Manchester are interested in making some (FLASH) measurements with the QuARC and do PeakFinder WET measurements of the detector. Will liaise with Sam Manger after 8th August to discuss.
  • Spoke with Linda Mortimer at PTCOG and Clatterbridge are interested in a compact version of the QuARC for pristine Bragg peak and SOBP measurements.
    • Will work towards developing 14-sheet (2.86mm) detector with USB104 and Raspberry Pi.
  • USB104 works with Rev. B boards, however encountered a problem with DPTI interface with TX_EN sometimes going high (disabling writing) after 19 bytes are written to the chip, causing data to be disordered and appear very noisy.
    • Will ask Matt Warren to look into this, as this will likely remain an issue with Zmod version of daughter board for Rev. D.
    • Will investigate Quad SPI programming on board to enable automatic configuration on power-up.
  • Currently have 3 Raspberry Pi SD cards: 32 GB (SanDisk) and 64 GB (Delkin) with normal installations and 400 GB (SanDisk) with headless installation.
  • Marko has returned Raspberry Pi and Nexys Video sent for testing, and also sent Rev. D boards.
    • Will set up his Pi with Argon case for use at UCL.
    • Will test Rev. D boards.
  • Investigated range-energy dependence of UCLH data and updated analysis slides.
    • Strong range-energy dependence without any WET correction. Applying an addition of 0.086mm on average fixes this issue, though we still have some systematic underestimation of the range.
    • Will make a physical measurement of mylar foil thickness, to get order of magnitude physical thickness.
  • Made crosstalk measurements of Rev. B and Rev. C stacks using LED fibre and added results to analysis slides.
    • Observe 6.5 times more crosstalk in Rev. C stack due to photodiode misalignment. Average Rev. B crosstalk of 0.77%.
    • Will compare calibration data with crosstalk data to see if same coupling relationship is obtained.
