The brass stopper then blocks out approximately half of the remaining protons before the beam is again spread out through the second scattering foil. The intention is to produce a wide, homogeneous beam. The particles exit the first tube through a Kapton window which is used to keep the tube under vacuum to reduce random scattering off air molecules.) |
