Dear DIS Participant,
As one of the just over 300 participants, I would like to wish you a pleasant journey and look forward to seeing you in London next week.
The web-pages have undergone extensive updates recently and should contain all information you need, so please take a look at them again before you set off. All local information will of course be give to you upon arrival.
A few important items:
- We have decided to open registration on Sunday afternoon between 4pm
and 6pm in the North Cloisters in UCL. We would be grateful if some of
you could come then to reduce congestion on Monday morning, where we
will start registering at 8am.
- You will need to wear your conference badge on the campus at all times,
particularly for entrance to the Cruciform building where the plenary
sessions are. Security is somewhat tighter in that building and so
badges will be required. This is one of the reasons for us opening
registration early.
- All those staying in one of the two Halls of residence and who
registered before they were full should have received confirmation
from me about the booking.
- We hope that people have paid fees and the Hall accommodation, when
chosen, in advance as payment on arrival will be inconvenient.
- Speakers should have received a separate e-mail about uploading their talks to the Indico system.
All further information is on the web-page:

See you next week.
Cheers,
Matthew, on behalf of the Local Organising Committee.
First announcement, 30/01/08
Dear potential participant, We would like to announce the "XVI International Workshop on Deep-Inelastic Scattering and Related Subjects (DIS 2008)" which will take place in University College London, Monday 7 (09h00 start) - Friday 11 (13h15 close) April 2008. The workshop is organised jointly by UCL and Oxford University and will be held on the main UCL campus in Bloomsbury, London. The conference web page which contains practical information and details of the scientific structure can be be found at:
http://www.hep.ucl.ac.uk/dis2008/
The workshops aims to bring together about 300 physicists to discuss recent advances in DIS and QCD as well as discuss the future of the subject and possible facilities. The opening day will contain reviews of the current status, with parallel sessions starting on Monday late afternoon and continuing for all day Tuesday and Wednesday. The parallel working groups will then report back summaries of their sessions on Thursday and Friday. People who wish to make a presentation in the parallel sessions should contact the relevant convenors who are listed on the web-page.
The registration is open and people are encouraged to this as soon as possible. The conference fee is set at:
o standard: 240 GBP
o student: 165 GBP
Participants should also reserve their accommodation as soon as possible. The two main options are: stay in a student hall of residence, which offers basic (single room, shared facilities) but cheap accommodation; or stay in a hotel. We have reserved a fixed number of rooms in the halls, and allocation will be first come, first serve; we have to inform the hall precisely how many we need one month before the conference. There is no block booking for the hotels and participants should contact hotels themselves, a list of which is given on the web-page.
Cheers,
Matthew Wing, on behalf of the Local Organising Committee.
